Things That Make No Sense: Scientology and the Electoral College

From perpetualpost.com:

LILIT MARCUS: So, I’m a religion journalist. Can you imagine a less glamorous job? No one wants to make dinner party conversation about the Pope’s latest speech. However, if I want people to sit rapt and stare at me, all I have to do is offer to explain what the hell Scientology is about. I was going to do that here, and then I realized that a) it’s been done already, and b) I can provide it right here in all its brilliant South Park glory.

Scientology 'a criminal organisation', says Australian senator

From www.inspiremagazine.org.uk:

An Australian lawmaker has launched a scathing attack on the Church of Scientology saying: "Scientology is not a religious organisation but a criminal organisation that hides behind its so called religious beliefs." In a speech to the Australian Senate on 17 November, Senator Nick Xenophon said the Church of Scientology had a "worldwide pattern of abuse and criminality". The Church of Scientology responded in a statement saying that the senator had presented unsubstantiated allegations as if they were factual evidence, and by speaking under parliamentary privilege he had abused the powers granted to him as lawmaker. Scientology Attacker Gets Prison Time 366 days in jail for DDoS

From news.softpedia.com:

The DDoS attacks in January 2008 quickly stopped after they were condemned by existing critics of the Church of Scientology. No hacking was involved - hacking is gaining unauthorised access to a computer, DDoSing is flooding servers with requests so that they overload. The Church of Scientology has a proven record of manufacturing attacks on itself to gain sympathy. In 1977 for example the FBI discovered that it had attempted to frame journalist Paulette Cooper for making bomb threats. She narrowly avoided a long prison term. The original Anonymous who still post on 4chan and anti-Scientology Anonymous have diverged over the past two years as the latter grew and are presently separate groups with little overlap. Comments on ...

Is The Super Adventure Club Teetering?

From andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com:

Scientology has a long history of spastic, sweaty spokespersons with creepy laughs who eventually crack under the pressure and leave the organization. There was Robert Vaughn Young, who publicly renounced the church in 1989 after decades in its leadership. He was followed by Mike Rinder, an unhinged Australian bulldog who decided to stop lying for church leader David Miscavige last year and spoke out publicly about the cult's bizarre and arbitrary cruelty in June. The latest inheritor of Young and Rinder's mantle as the unsettling public face of scientology is Tommy Davis, the head of the cult's Celebrity Centre in Los Angeles.

What the Hell's Wrong With Gavin Newsom?

From gawker.com:

So, like, you might assume that interviewer Hank Plante would ask about this mysterious absense from all his official events, and his unannounced, Mark Sanford-style trip to Hawaii. But Newsom just wants to grin and laugh the soulless laugh of a cornered Scientologist, and talk about the budget deficit. It is a terrible, terrible interview, with the rictus smile and the mirthless laughter. And it ends with Newsom removing his mic and bitching, off the record, about how mean it is of journalists to ask what the hell is up with him.
